BUILDING STRENGTH & STABILITY INTO HIPS AND KNEES

In order to build sustainable strength in your body you need to ccreate stability and strength in specific areas. During this workshop you will learn specific actions to help both strengthen and stabilize your hips and knees. This work will help to strengthen your balancing poses, standing poses and even inversions. Stabilizing and strenthening your hips will help prevent SI joint pain, lower back pain and will improve the muscle strength of your abdomen. With the help of a few props your hips and knees will feel energized and ready to cope with the demands of daily life from a place of strength.
Cost $60 (Includes GST)
There will be a pot luck for those able to stay afterwards.

Reset and Reconnect

Come and join me in this restorative workshop where you can begin the New Year with intentions of resetting your body and mind after the holiday season and reconnecting to your practice once again.
We will begin by awakening and connecting to your body through various asana in preparation for directing your mind inward. Then we will use the restorative postures to gain access to the different areas of the trunk where we can explore the breath helping to quieten the mind. The practice should help to let go of the recent busyness and craziness of life and to reconnect to source within.

Balancing Mobility & Stability in Your Shoulders

A healthy shoulder joint requires a combination of mobility AND stability in order for the joint to move freely and easily. Our scapula need to stabilize the shoulder girdle enough to allow for freedom of movement of the shoulder. The scapula should be able to go through upward rotation, downward rotation, protraction, retraction, abduction, and posterior tilting. The mobility and stability of the shoulder joint also depends on the rotator cuff muscles which surround the joint.
During this workshop we will be exploring several poses that will help to open the tight muscles and to strengthen the week muscles of the shoulders, helping to bring about a healthy balance between mobility and stability.

Nourish Your Mind, Body and Spirit
A practice to relax the body, quieten the mind and lift your spirit

Through Pranayama (breath awareness) we are taken into the inner space of the body and are allowed to witness the various movements of breath that can be explored and experienced inside our awakened body.This practice helps to further quieten our mind and connect us to spirit.
When our mind, body, and spirit have all been nourished and purified through the various practices of yoga, we can then experience an increase in the flow of prana or energy throughout the whole body. This helps to improve our capacity to work, think, digest, taste, feel, and experience life to the fullest. In other words, through the practice of yoga we become more present to everything we do in in every given moment!

NOTE: Props required include; a bolster, two blocks, 3 blankets and/or thick towels, a belt and a chair.

This workshop focus is on some of the work that I learned through Faeq Biria when I studied with him in France during the summer of 2007.
We would do most of these postures each morning building upon the work each day as we went through weeks one to four.
The asanas focus on areas of the body that are assisted to either open or strengthen, helping us as we advance through the stages of practice.
